These Terms apply to the official Reader application, website, accounts, and optional online services. By using them, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
Using Reader
You may use Reader for lawful personal reading and research. You are responsible for your account, your imported materials, and activity performed through your account. Do not interfere with the service, attempt to access another person's data, or use Reader to violate intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
Your materials
You keep ownership of the books, notes, highlights, files, and prompts you provide. You grant Reader the limited permission needed to store, process, transmit, and display those materials solely to operate the features you request. You must have the rights needed to import and process a file.
AI features
AI output can be incomplete or wrong. It is a reading aid, not a substitute for the original text or professional advice. Verify important claims against the book and reliable sources. Reader may limit an AI request when a book's rights or technical capabilities do not permit the requested processing.
Availability and changes
Local reading is designed to remain useful without the backend, but accounts, sync, catalog, and AI features may change, be limited, or become unavailable. Reader may update the application and service to improve safety, reliability, or functionality.
Source license
Access to Reader source code is governed by the license included with that source. It permits personal use and source sharing under its terms but does not grant permission to redistribute compiled Reader applications or operate Reader as a hosted service. These Terms do not expand that license.
Suspension and termination
Reader may suspend or terminate access when necessary to protect users, the service, or third parties, or when these Terms are materially violated. You may stop using Reader and request account deletion at any time.
Disclaimers
Reader is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. Reader contributors disclaim implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Reader contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill arising from use of Reader. Liability that cannot legally be limited remains unaffected.
Changes to these Terms
If these Terms change materially, the effective date above will be updated and notice will be provided where appropriate. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
